Prof Michael Schuetz, FRACS, FaOrth is the Director of the Jamieson Trauma Institute and Chair of Trauma at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane / Australia. He remains a practicing orthopaedic surgeon and international research leader in the field of orthopaedic trauma research and trauma systems. He has published more than 200 pre-reviewed journal articles and has been frequently an invited international keynote lecturer.
Michael chairs the Research Committee of the Australian Orthopaedic Association and is Member of the Evaluation Subcommittee advising the Australian Department of Health on new technologies requesting public funding. He was the inaugural Director of the State-wide Trauma Network in Queensland and is now the inaugural Chair of the Queensland Trauma and Burns Quality Assurance Committee.
For 25 years Michael is actively involved in Medical Device Development partnering with clinicians, universities and industry. In 2006 he set up the AO Development Board in Asia Pacific, which delivered specific new Medical Devices for this region. Since 2017 he is the Chair of the international AO TechTransfer and Incubator Board / Zuerich – Switzerland selecting, supporting and mentoring innovations into clinical application for musculoskeletal injuries.
Prebiously Prof Michael Schuetz was Chair for Trauma- and Reconstructive Surgery at the Humboldt University as well is the Director of the Centre for Musculoskeletal Surgery at the Charité Hospital in Berlin / Germany from 2016 until 2018.
In 2014 Prof Michael Schuetz received the AOA Research Award in recognition for Orthopaedic Research in Australia.
